It is not an uncommon occurrance to see stars like Jeff Goldblum, Robin Williams and Gwenyth Paltrow walking around the city. The Arts Club theater was founded in 1958 and since then has helped the early careers of such Canadian greats as Michael Buble and Michael J. Fox. The theater still peforms a vast repetoir of quality performances today at the Stanley Theatre. Other well known theatre companies in Vancouver include the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company and Studio 58. Those visiting Vancouver during the summer months should also be sure to see the largest Canadian Shakespear festival, Bard on the Beach, as well as Theatre Under the Stars which performs musicals outdoors in Stanley Park. Along with stage performances, Vancouver also hosts an annual Fringe Film Festival and International Film Festival.
Vancouver features some very distinct architecture, much of which can be seen on its museums. The Vancouver Art Gallery, located in a former old courthouse, has a permanent collection of over 7,900 items. It is also the fifth largest art gallery in Canada. The Vancouver Museum, housed within the HR MacMillan Space Centre building, is the Canada's largest civil musuem. Guests can do everything from a see a fully preserved mummy to ride in a full motion space simulator. The building is also uniquely shaped, looking almost like it has a spaceship on top of it. These are just a few of Vancouver's many fascinating museums. The city is also home to a thriving music scene, and is responsible for much of the punk rock movement. With its ever expanding cultural opportunities and beautiful landscapes, Vancouver is a great city to visit during your next vacation.
