The city of Winnipeg makes for a great outdoor as well as cultural experience. It is the largest city in the Manitoba province, and is home to hundreds of lakes, including Canada's fifth and the world's eleventh largest lake, Lake Manitoba, as well as Lake of the Woods and Lake Winnipeg. There are many parks located around these lakes, including Assinboine Forest and Park, Gerald Lynch Park and Kildonan Park.

Winnipeg is perhaps best known for its growing cultural scene. Companies that have been performing for decades collide with budding artists to create a setting unique to the city. Cannada's oldest ballet company, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, is based here. The Ballet presents over 100 performances each year and can be seen in centers both large and small. See Canada's sixth largest art gallery in Winnipeg as well, the Winnipeg Art Gallery. The collection there includes over 23,000 works and has a particular emphasis on Canadian art. It also houses the world's largest collection of contemporary Inuit art.

The Manitoba Theatre Centre in Winnipeg is Canada's oldest English-language regional theatre, and has a higher attendance than any other theater in the country. Some famous faces that have been seen at the MTC in the past include Keanu Reeves, Gordon Clapp and Len Cariou among others. The MTC also hosts the Winnipeg Fringe Festival each year, which is the second largest Fringe festival in North America. This is also where 100% of the income for the performers and the theater comes from.

Winnipeg is almost always hosting a festival, no matter what time of year it is. The most notable is the Folklorama, the largest and longest running multicultural event of its kind in the world. There are a number of music and film festivals as well.
