As Canada's largest metropolitan area, Toronto has something for almost everyone. It is home to many well known galleries, theaters, events and sights, as well as one of the most ethnically diverse cities in Canada.
The two most popular art galleries in Canada are the Art Gallery of Ontario and Royal Ontario Museum. The Art Gallery of Ontario is currently the eighth largets museum in North America, and with more than 66,000 works, will certainly take more than one trip to see. The collection spans from such artists as Vincent Van Gogh to Andy Warhol. Meanwhile, the Royal Ontario Museum is the fifth largest museum in North America, and features more than six million items, including dinosaur collections and East Asian and African art. A visit to Toronto isn't complete without seeing the CN Tower as well, which at 1,815 feet is the world's largest free standing structure.
The Yorkville neighborhood is the city's most popular shopping and dining area, and many celebrities from around the country can be seen here. Greektown on the Danforth is another popular dining location in Toronto, with one of the highest concentrations of restaurants per kilometre in the world.
Toronto is also the third largest performer of English language theater, followed only by New York City and London, and has produced such names as John Candy and Jim Carrey. The entertainment district in Toronto is flourishing, from small indie theaters to large and lavish downtown venues.
Festivals are happening in Toronto nearly year round, including Canada's largest fair, the Canada National Exhibition. Toronto's International Film Festival is another one of Canada's largest festivals.
As one of the world's cultural epicenters, Toronto is an excellent choice for any worldly traveller.
