Los Angeles
Type your description here:
As one of the two major Meccas of American culture Los Angeles needs little introduction. However, with so much to see and do it is certainly helpful to have a little background information before making your way to California.
The city itself is divided into an array of districts that include: Downtown LA, East LA, South LA, Harbor Area, Hollywood, Wilshire, Westside (which is actually a conglomerate of numerous other districts), San Fernando Valley and Crescenta Valley. Of particular note, Downtown LA features the sprawling skyline; South Los Angeles is the area frequently referred to in the early-mid 90's as South Central LA; Hollywood is home to movie magic, and many of the city's popular landmarks such as Grauman's Chinese Theater, Hollywood Walk of Fame, and the Sunset Strip; and the Westside includes notable areas such as Venice, Santa Monica and Beverly Hills.
The area is best described as having a subtropical climate, which offers travelers sunny weather year-round. Temperatures rarely drop below 50 Fahrenheit during the days, though summer temperatures have been known to steadily climb above 90 Fahrenheit.
When traveling to Los Angeles, you quite literally have just about anything you could want at your fingertips. The plethora of theaters and museums featured throughout the city are too numerous to list here, and along with the educational institutes, visitors will also find a number of landmarks that include US Bank Tower, Santa Monica Pier and the Hollywood Sign just to name a few.
Sports fans will find the atmosphere of Los Angeles to be positively soaked in professional sports. The Dodgers (MLB), Kings (NHL), Lakers (NBA), Clippers (NBA), Sparks (WNBA) and Galaxy (MLS) all call Los Angeles home, with a number of smaller professional, and amateur, teams also scattered throughout the city. In particular, the Los Angeles Lakers have been blessed with one of the most storied franchises in all of sports. Throughout the years, the team has won 14 championships with the likes of Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant.
Although it is seen as a window into America for cultures around the world, Los Angeles is decidedly different than just about anywhere else in America. With that being said, LA can also provide a window into cultures around the world for Americans, and may offer the largest, most diverse array of entertainment and activity of all the travel destinations in America. So long as you can withstand the hustle of this major metropolis, it's definitely worth experiencing at least once.
