Boise, Idaho is the capital of the state and is one of the most visited cities in Idaho. Originally discovered by French-Canadian trappers, this city is full of surprises. There are many outdoor activities available throughout town, due to the Boise River being so nearby. There are also museums, theatres, and other cultural attractions that may appeal to a different set of people.

For all of the outdoor enthusiasts out there, Boise delivers. There is the Boise River Greenbelt which is a haven for hikers and bikers. The paved path runs for almost 20 miles and is set along some of the most beautiful scenery in the Boise area. Another large outdoor attraction is the Boise River itself. Popular activities on the river include fishing, swimming, and rafting. White water rapids are rare in this area of the Boise River, but even so, life jackets are recommended for rafters and swimmers alike. During the winter practice your skiing skills at the Bogus Basin Mountain Resort. This resort offers all sorts of fun winter activities. There is cross country skiing, downhill skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing, just to name a few.

For those of you who prefer to learn about the culture of Boise, there are many indoor attractions in the city, as well. There is the Velma V. Morrison Center for the Performing Arts located inside Boise State University. Several areas of the arts call this center home, from acting troupes to musical groups. Performances are unique and vary greatly. There is also the Basque Museum and Cultural Center. This museum is housed in the oldest brick building in Boise, which was built in 1864. Because Boise has the second largest concentration of Basquian immigrants in the world, is it natural to have a museum dedicated to their culture. Here you can learn about these immigrants from the Iberian Peninsula through artifacts and other cultural exhibits.

There are also places for the animal lovers among us in Boise. The World Center for Birds of Prey is dedicated to building the populations of endangered birds. They helped to build the population of the peregrine falcon so it could be taken off of the endangered species list. The staff at the Center is now trying to breed the rare California condor in hopes that the population can be reestablished. There is also the Zoo Boise which was established in 1913. Home to 235 animals ranging from zebras to native Idahoan animals, there is a lot to see in this animal kingdom.

Visiting Boise, Idaho is far from boring. From fabulous outdoor activities to informative indoor museums, there is something for everyone. Animals, rivers, culture, and much more can be found in this exciting capital of Idaho.
