The Show-Me State offers the best of city living, country life, and everything in between! With its location in the heart of the country and shared borders with eight states, it is just a short drive or flight from most Americans. Sparkling rivers, bustling nightlife, and a Midwestern attitude that's accented by Southern hospitality, many visitors plan to return to Missouri again and again.

As the Gateway to the West, St. Louis stands as one the state's two main urban centers and is located on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River. The city is home to attractions as diverse as fine art and world-class performance art to professional sports and a thriving nightlife scene. Across the state, Kansas City is the other major metropolitan center in the state. Folks in Kansas City are known for their good eats, especially Kansas City-style barbecue and Kansas City strip steak. The city also boasts a thriving music scene that features hip-hop, jazz, and punk rock, as well as professional sports.

North of St. Louis lies Hannibal, the boyhood home of great American author Mark Twain. Also located on the banks of the Mississippi River, Hannibal is home to many popular attractions related to the legendary writer. During the summer, Hannibal hosts Tom Sawyer Days, one of the top-rated family festivals in the United States. Quaint bed & breakfasts, home-style dining, and riverboat rides are popular for travelers seeking a quiet retreat.

Head back toward the center of the state and arrive at Jefferson City, the Show-Me State's capital city. The city is highlighted by the stunning Missouri State Capitol Building atop its spot on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River. The downtown Jefferson City area features quaint shopping and dining venues with stunning views of the capitol building providing the backdrop. Just south of Jefferson City is the Lake of the Ozarks area, which draws more than 3 million annual visitors. Rolling hills and sparkling waters of this 55,000 acre man-made reservoir serve as a prime outdoor recreation destination for visitors.

Continue southwest to the Springfield-Branson area of Missouri nestled in the Ozark Mountains. Branson is one of the country's top destinations for live entertainment with hundreds of country, oldies, bluegrass, comedy, and variety stage shows featured in the city. Branson is also home to several theme parks and water parks, including Silver Dollar City and White Water. Just half an hour north of Branson is Springfield, the state's third-largest city, which serves as the major retail and economic center for Southwest Missouri. Opposite of the Springfield-Branson area is Southeast Missouri, a region highlighted by the rolling foothills of the Ozark Mountains and home to sparkling rivers and stunning limestone bluffs, making is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts seeking fishing, canoeing, and boating opportunities.

No matter where Missouri travels take her visitors, they never need to search too far to find non-stop entertainment under the city lights and unparalleled outdoor splendor under the sun!
