The state of Montana is well known for its wide open spaces, amazing mountain views, and river adventures. All of these features make Montana one of the premier places in the United States for outdoor adventures. From fishing and hunting to enjoying the river, there is definitely no shortage of outdoor activity in this large state.
Fishing is one of the most popular pastimes in Montana. With almost 60,000 miles of rivers, streams, and water areas, finding a place to cast your line isn't going to take you all day. Montana is home to more than 90 species of fish, so if you are casting out for a specific catch, chances are you can find it in Montana. Fishing is a wonderful way to relax and spend a day enjoying all of the wonders that nature has to offer.
Going hand in hand with fishing is hunting. Again, Montana's space and abundance of wildlife leads to a haven for big game hunters. The sheer number of species and game that can be tracked in this state is amazing. Stalk mountain lion, bighorn sheep, moose, elk, black bear, and a huge number of birds. This aspect of Montana is what draws most visitors to the state.
Another thing that Montana is known for is the amazing opportunity to enjoy horseback riding. The varied landscapes that Montana has to offer lead to a wonderful ride. Depending on experience you can ride through forest, along rivers and lakes, and gallop free though the flatlands. There are literally hundreds of horse stables in Montana that rent horses by the day and give lessons. So whether you have been riding for years or you just want to try something new, give horseback riding a chance.
Spending time on the river is another way to pass time in Montana. Whitewater rafting is a huge pastime in the state. There is also canoeing, kayaking, and spending the day on a drift boat. Rapids range from small, easily negotiable waters, to rushing rapids that shouldn't be tried by any but the most trained professional. The rivers of Montana provide a wealth of activities aside from water sports as well. Some are calm enough to enjoy swimming, and of course the blue ribbon fishing of Montana always leads fishermen to Montana's river shores.
Spending time enjoying the great outdoors is very easily done in the state of Montana. While the cities do hold amazing museums, zoos, galleries, and more, the true beauty of the state is its outdoor activities. And there are plenty of those activities to choose from, leading to a scenic and exciting trip to Montana.
