North Carolina is a wonderful state bursting with activities and things to do. There is so much to do in the state, including outdoor activities, museums, and several theme parks. All of these activities are great for every member of the family and leave no one feeling left out. When planning a vacation to North Carolina keep in mind all of the great attractions that can be found scattered throughout the state.

Outdoor fun has almost become synonymous with North Carolina. There are mountains, parks, and even coastal beaches to explore. One of the most beautiful attractions is Linville Caverns. These caverns are located at the foot of Humpback Mountain and were discovered in the 1800s. Tours began in 1937 and continue today. You can take a guided tour though the many rooms and chambers of the caverns, including The Gikey Room which is full of amazing natural colors. The Gem Mountain Gemstone Mine is a fun way to get the family together for a day. Spend time prospecting as the miners did, with a screen and water. Any stones you find are yours to keep, and there are a host of gemstones to be found. Aquamarine, moonstones, amethysts, rubies, and sapphires have all been found here. At the mine there are people to appraise your stone and even people to cut and design your stones into jewelry. Chimney Rock Park will appeal to all of the nature lovers in the state. Here you can hike miles of trails and see amazing views that go on for as long as 75 miles. There is also a 404 foot waterfall, Nature Center, and a host of other natural wonders.

There are a wide range of museums that make their homes in North Carolina. From museums about the states history, to ones dedicated completely to children, there is something for everyone. The North Carolina Museum of History was established in 1902 and since then has formed a collection of more than 250,000 artifacts related to the state?s history. Some of the most popular exhibits are on healing and medicine and of course the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. There are also shops in the museum where you can purchase books and souvenirs related to North Carolina. The Mint Museum of Art is actually two museums, one dedicated to art in a general form, the other focuses more on arts and crafts. Both feature work done predominately by American artists, but they do sometimes bring in foreign influences. There are pieces from the pre-Colombian days to the present. Some features include paintings, sculptures, costumes, and photography. For the children, be sure to visit the Greensboro Children?s Museum. Here there are hands on exhibits related to aviation, ecology, transportation, and more. There is even a miniature reconstruction of a town where kids can learn the ins and outs of an adult life.

There are also many theme parks in North Carolina. The Emerald Pointe Water Park is the largest in the state and features slides, a lazy river, and wave pool. Paramount?s Carowinds has more than 50 attractions in its water and theme parks. One hundred acres of land is dedicated to having fun at this exciting theme park. The Gold City Amusement Park takes you back in time to the 1800s with miners and early settlers. Pan for your own gemstones just as they did.

Spending time in North Carolina is a rewarding and fun thing to do. With all of the options related to attractions you will never go bored in this exciting state. From mining for gemstones to viewing art collections, the eclectic variety should appeal to all.
