Enjoying a recreational vacation in Vermont is one of the best decisions a person can make. The beautiful and curious nature of Lake Champlain to the state's northwest draws a crowd during any weather. Visitors flock en masse to the majestic Green Mountains the state is so famous for. As the second least populous state in the nation, it's great for a secluded and relaxing holiday.
Vermont weather is notable for its warm, humid summers where visitors and locals spend free time hiking the hills for incredible views. Winter is well known for the incredible skiing opportunities due to cold winters and exceptional snowfall. The best cross-country and downhill ski areas are located within this state's borders. A newcomer to the popular travel seasons is fall, where Vermont excels with its cooler weather and incredible foliage displays. As cold weather approaches, the local sugar maple trees put on an incredible display, boasting bright orange and solid gold leaves.
Lake Champlain is the sixth-largest lake in the United States. Located between the Green Mountains and the Champlain Valley, this beautiful lake offers cruises, small boat recreational activities, and relaxing fishing mornings. Locals warn travelers to be on guard for the famous cryptozoological phenomenon, Champ. This lake monster is rumored to appear near the surface of the water; t-shirts and other memorabilia can be found on sale throughout the area.
Its capital of Montpelier, with its gold adorned domed capital, is home to a number of fun activities. A bustling downtown district provides visitors a chance to experience a wide variety of local cafés, shops, and local culture. Cyclists will be interested in knowing that Montpelier is renowned for its incredible bike trails and courteous drivers. One great bike path, is the one that runs east from downtown Main St. along Stone Cutters Way. This path extends over a mile along the Winooski River, a majestic tributary of Lake Champlain and an incredible place for canoeing.
Burlington is home to the University of Vermont and, as such, provides some of the best skiing in the state. The city prides itself on being hospitable to visitors, even going so far as convincing them to move. The crisp mountain air and incredibly low air pollution provides clean visuals of all the surrounding mountain landscape.
