Washington State hosts a large number of opportunities for travelers wanting anything from relaxation to adventure. Some of the best locations in the state include Seattle, Tacoma, Mount St. Helens, and Spokane. The weather is some of the best the northwest has to offer, famous for the frequently refreshing rains.
Seattle is the cultural hotbed of activity in the Pacific Northwest. This international port has three professional sports teams, world-famous cuisine, and a lifestyle that is rich in popular culture. Golfing, skiing, hiking, and camping are all within close proximity of the city. Local Zoos and parks offer a chance to relax while seeing a bit of nature that is always welcomed. Travelers are urged to visit the Northwest Seaport Maritime Heritage Center to view a bit of local nautical history.
Mount St. Helens is one of the most infamous stratovolcanoes in the nation, due to its unusual eruption on May 18th, 1980. Whereas most volcanoes erupt from the top, generally considered the thinnest portion of rock, St. Helens blew apart its northern face, causing a massive debris avalanche and replacing it with a mile-wide horseshoe-shaped crater.
Spokane offers small-town ambiance while still retaining its title as the second largest city in Washington. The downtown area contains the famous Riverfront Park and Spokane Falls, which offer a incredible glimpse of the outdoors. The Bing Crosby Collection can be found at the Gonzaga University, which offers a glimpse of the famous songster. Visitors to the Silverwood Theme Park will find thrills, games, and more.
Near Mount Rainier visitors will find a bustling urban port, Tacoma. This "City of Destiny" was chosen as the site of the western terminus of the Northern Pacific Railroad in the late 1800s. The city offers a long history of blue-collar labor politics and harbor fun. It is also notable for having an extensive maze of underground tunnels that remain unmapped to this day.
Washington is home to buckets of professional sports teams. The Seattle Seahawks represent the state in the NFL and the Seattle Mariners in the MLB. The city has everything to offer a sports fan, from hockey to arena football and more. Qwest field is a major stadium located right next to Safeco field, the baseball field with an impressive retractable roof.
